Help Stop SOPA/PIPA

Tell Congress not to censor the internet. PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”

The Cutting – Video Installation

The Cutting – Video Installation

This video documents a live video installation presented at the Junction Arts Festival, September 11th 2010. Part of the Crow project, this video was installed between the trees next to the gazebo on Dundas Street West, near St. John’s Road and depicts the felling of a birch tree in my backyard. The tree needed to be cut down due to infestation. I documented the process because I was saddened by the loss of the beautiful Paper Birch tree (Betula papyrifera) which I’d grown up with in my backyard. I chose this video in keeping with the “environment” theme of this year’s festival. The installation was produced with the support of the Sustainability Network. The video presents Spookey Ruben rocking the crowds at Dundas Square for NXNE 2010, and displaying serious instrumental genius on guitar. This is the last section of the 15 min title song (Track #8) off his latest album, Mechanical Royalty.

I posted this “virtual” holiday video card to YouTube in 2008. It is a home movie of me playing The Little Drummer Boy on the piano at a recital in 1989 — back in my intermediate piano days. Enjoy.
