The Cutting – Video Installation

Posted by on Sep 12, 2010 in Blog, Crow, Portfolio

This video documents a live video installation presented at the Junction Arts Festival, September 11th 2010. Part of the Crow project, this video was installed between the trees next to the gazebo on Dundas Street West, near St. John’s Road and depicts the felling of a birch tree in my backyard. The tree needed to be cut down due to infestation. I documented the process because I was saddened by the loss of the beautiful Paper Birch tree (Betula papyrifera) which I’d grown up with in my backyard. I chose this video in keeping with the “environment” theme of this year’s festival. The installation was produced with the support of the Sustainability Network. Learn about the enhancement and protection of urban forests at LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests).

In this video, Beck brilliantly mixes Fame with Another One Bites the Dust.. though the sound quality of this video recording doesn’t do the music justice. This video was posted to YouTube on Oct 18th, 2006.
