On this day in 2000, ftpmedia.com was born. To celebrate and commemorate the end of a decade of FTP Media, I have re-posted the original web video created during a residency at the Canadian Film Centre in 1999. My objective was to use digital video technology to tell a story that would effectively a) be meaningful, thus compelling, in order to therefore b) demonstrate a successful application of video produced online. Created with Apple video samples shipped with the new macs and Super 8 home movie footage to tell the story of my awakening, this video documents my experience with cancer in 1993 via home movie footage combined with a narration based on journal entries written during that time. This is the most personal project I have produced to date, singularly different - on both an emotional level and on a content level - from anything else I have completed since. Enjoy.

This video documents a live video installation presented at the Junction Arts Festival, September 11th 2010. Part of the Crow project, this video was installed between the trees next to the gazebo on Dundas Street West, near St. John's Road and depicts the felling of a birch tree in my backyard. The tree needed to be cut down due to infestation. I documented the process because I was saddened by the loss of the beautiful Paper Birch tree (Betula papyrifera) which I'd grown up with in my backyard. I chose this video in keeping with the "environment" theme of this year's festival. The installation was produced with the support of the Sustainability Network.
